Ripple commits over $5 million to advance blockchain research in APAC
Ripple is expanding its commitment to blockchain development in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, as highlighted in a Ripple Insights article published on June 10. APAC is a global hub for digital finance, leading the way for neobanks and a rapidly growing fintech market. Its progressive regulatory frameworks and vibrant building community make it a leader in digital asset adoption.
To fuel this growth, Ripple is leveraging its global University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). The program, now in its seventh year, has been pivotal in driving blockchain innovation in higher education, equipping the next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs with critical tools and funding. The company announced:
Ripple is doubling down on blockchain innovation in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, committing more than $5 million in additional funding through the global University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI).
The investment supports cutting-edge academic research across six countries, including new partnerships in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, and new grants in Taiwan and Australia.
Key initiatives include a new $1.1 million partnership with Korea University and continued research at Kyoto University. In Singapore, UBRI has funded Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and renewed its commitment to the National University of Singapore (NUS), which was named the World’s Top Blockchain University in 2021.
Further expansion includes a new partnership with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) in Taiwan, focusing on tokenizing real-world assets (RWA). In Australia, a new funding for the Australian National University (ANU) and a new partnership with Victoria University bring the total investment to $1.3 million. Ripple’s UBRI program is critical to APAC’s growing crypto and blockchain leadership, empowering universities to drive global blockchain adoption and interoperability.
