MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Strategy Fuels Explosion of Institutional and Individual Exposure Worldwide
MicroStrategy, now operating under the “Strategy” brand, continues to position itself as one of the leaders of the Bitcoin movement in traditional finance. According to Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, the number of institutions directly invested in MSTR stock has surpassed 13,000, with more than 814,000 retail accounts participating. However, even more notable is the estimated 55 million people who have indirect exposure to MSTR through ETFs, mutual funds, retirement plans, and insurance portfolios.
Speaking on the X platform, Saylor asserted: “Our Bitcoin strategy has significantly expanded its global reach, not only to large institutional investors but also to tens of millions of individuals through traditional financial means.”
This meteoric growth reflects Strategy’s relentless Bitcoin accumulation strategy. As of mid-April 2025, the company owned a total of 531,644 BTC, including its most recent purchase of 3,459 BTC worth $286 million. The purchase was funded through a Class A common stock offering, which raised nearly $286 million in cash.
The company now has significant issuance room, with over $2.08 billion in MSTR shares and $20.97 billion in STRK shares ready to hit the market, facilitating further Bitcoin purchases or expansion into other digital assets.
Michael Saylor, who has become a global symbol of the corporate Bitcoin movement, has recently met with the SEC, the US House Financial Services Committee, and even attended the Crypto Summit hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House.
He made a striking prediction: Bitcoin could reach $13 million by 2045, with a bullish scenario of $49 million and a conservative scenario of $3 million. At the same time, he believes that Bitcoin's market capitalization could reach $500 trillion, bringing a huge benefit of $16 to $81 trillion to the US Treasury through strategic reserves.
By becoming the Bitcoin "arm" of traditional finance, Strategy is gradually reshaping the way institutional and individual investors access digital assets, ushering in a new era of global finance - where Bitcoin plays the role of a core reserve asset.
